National Business Travel Network

What is the National Business Travel Network?

Travel plans are an effective way for businesses to reduce car use and CO2 emissions, as well as providing a range of other benefits. The Department for Transport’s National Business Travel Network (NBTN) works with businesses to promote workplace travel plans.

The British Chambers of Commerce are key partners in the National Business Travel Network.

What are Travel Plans?

Travel plans promote greener, cleaner travel choices and cut down the reliance on cars, and case studies have shown that travel plans can reduce car use by 10% to 25%. Each travel plan is tailored to the needs of each business and can include a range of measures such as cycle parking, discounted public transport tickets, car sharing schemes or flexible working.

The benefits of travel plans:

Financial
Travel plans can benefit companies financially by reducing costs associated with car parking, business trips & congestion and reducing the need for expansion and office space.

Human resources
Travel planning can increase staff retention, reduce staff sick days and improve staff health, improve staff motivation and morale and provide further opportunities to win employer awards.

Environmental
By implementing travel plans businesses make positive contributions to environmental targets, reducing CO2 emissions, increasing transport sustainability, improving staff awareness of environmental issues & benefiting the local community.

Facilities
Travel plans make better use of space, reduce congestion on and around the site, improve health and safety and can help secure planning permission.

How can the National Business Travel Network help?
